Blue Balloons

A friend who is taking art classes at the university (as a second degree) set up an installation earlier which involved thousands of balloons. It was a promising photo opportunity — it would have been crazy not to go. We got there pretty late though (because of a doctor’s appointment) so most of the balloons have either popped (probably because of the heat) or got pulled out (read: some people are just shameless!).

Y was another reason we made it a point to go. We thought she’d be excited at the sight of so many balloons, but we were wrong. I don’t know if it was the heat or that there were so many people there – she just wasn’t as excited as we were. I refuse to listen to that nagging voice in my head that says maybe she’s too old for balloons. I simply can’t, especially now that I’m getting all choked up again by the thought of her finishing another year and moving to another level in school. I guess that’s one of the difficulties of having an only child. It’s harder to accept that she’s becoming her own person and (seems to be) needing us less and less.

One Response to “Blue Balloons”

  1. i love your balloon photos, they’re great. i’m glad you got there. as for Y, i believe it is a sign of growing up, i’ve been there, and it is so much harder when you have only one. but the good news is, as they get even older, they come around again. vinny spends more time with us now then he did before, i think he even thinks were “cool”. 🙂
